General Questions About the Illinois Lottery
Can anyone play lottery?
Anyone who is 18 years or older can play Illinois Lottery games. To play online, players must also be a resident of Illinois and physically located in Illinois at time of purchase.
Where can I play?
The Lottery has a statewide network of over 8,200 retailers, and growing. You can purchase Illinois Lottery products at locations such as convenience stores, gas stations and supermarkets, plus you can also look for our Lottery Games Dispensing Machines. All locations sell scratch-off Instant games, and offer draw games at the Lottery terminals.
The Illinois Lottery also offers players the ability to play select lottery games online.
Can I subscribe to Mega Millions®, Powerball®, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto®, Pick 3 And Pick 4?
Can I Buy Tickets In Advance At Retail?
Yes. Powerball, Lotto and Mega Millions tickets can be purchased in advance for up to 15 consecutive drawings by marking the number of drawings on the play slip, or for up to 25 consecutive drawings by requesting the number of drawings from an Illinois Lottery retailer. Lucky Day Lotto tickets may, at the purchaser’s discretion, be purchased for up to 25 consecutive midday, evening or both midday and evening drawings. Pick 3 and Pick 4 tickets can be purchased for up to 7 days ahead of time, if the purchaser requests the purchase from an Illinois Lottery retailer; or for up to 6 days in advance, if the purchaser submits a completed play slip.
What's "Quick Pick?
A Quick Pick is a set of randomly selected lottery numbers generated by the Lottery terminal or when making online purchases.
How can I find out more about the jackpots?
Jackpots are displayed on the Illinois Lottery website. Illinois residents can also call 1-800-252-1775 for jackpot information.

What is Megaplier?
It's an add-on to Mega Millions. For an additional $1, you can multiply your non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, or 5 times. If you match 5 white balls and the multiplier is 5, the prize is $5 million. The choice to play Megaplier applies to all games played on the ticket. Players cannot apply the option to individual game panels on a ticket.
What is Extra Shot™?
It's an add-on to the Lotto game. For an additional $1 per game panel played on your ticket, you get a computer-generated Extra Shot number to increase your chances of winning non-jackpot Lotto prizes. The choice to play Extra Shot applies to all game panels played on the ticket. The Extra Shot number is drawn separately from the Lotto numbers. If you match the Extra Shot number, you can multiply your non-jackpot winnings by 25 times.
What is Power Play®?
It's an add-on to the Powerball game. For an additional $1, you can multiply your non-jackpot winnings. The Match 5+0 prize doubles to $2,000,000 with Power Play®! The choice to play Power Play applies to all games played on the ticket. Players can not apply the option to only select panels on a ticket.
When are the winning numbers picked?
Winning number drawing days and times vary by game. Details on draw dates and time for each game can be found online.
Where can I find the winning numbers?
You find the most recent winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery homepage. You can also search for winning numbers online.
How do I claim my prize ($600 or under)?
If you won $600 or less and played online, your winnings will be deposited directly into your online account. If you played at your local retailer and won, you may collect your winnings directly from most Lottery retailers. You may also visit one of the Lottery Claim Centers for validation and prize payment, or mail the ticket (after you sign the ticket-back) and a completed claim form to the Central Lottery Office in Springfield.

The claim form and ticket must be received at a Lottery Claim Center within one year of the drawing date, or, for instant games, within a year after the announced end-of-game. Although it is extremely rare, tickets mailed to Springfield for payment can be lost; therefore, certified mail with receipt acknowledgment is highly recommended.
How do I claim my prize (over $600)?
Prizes over $600 but less than $1 million:
- Fill out a claim form/questionnaire and mail it—along with the signed ticket—to Lottery Central in Springfield.
- You can also visit one of the "Prize Centers" to receive winnings up to $25,000 immediately (less state and federal tax withholding). For prizes over $25,000 but less than $1,000,000, the Prize Centers will deliver your claim form and ticket to the Lottery’s Central office in Springfield. (Lottery is not responsible for misdirected claims.)

When you visit a Prize Center and file a claim for any prize amount, you need to present a government-issued photo ID AND some means of verifying your Social Security Number (social security card, tax return, paycheck stub, etc).

How long do I have to claim Pick 3, Pick 4, Lucky Day Lotto, Lotto, Powerball and Mega Millions prizes?
For these games, you have one year from the drawing date. Instant games may be claimed up to one year after the announced end-of-game
Can more than one person claim a prize?
If your prize is $600 or less - only one person can claim it.
If your prize is $600 to $999,999 - a group can claim it if:
- The claim form is filled out in one person's name.
- The claim form is filed with form IL-5754 (available from the Lottery claim center)
- The IL-5754 form is filled out with the name, address and Social Security Number of each person in your group.
- Each person listed on the secondary form (IL-5754) will receive a check for his or her portion of the winnings.
If your prize is $1 million or more:
A group may be entitled to form a partnership and secure a federal employer identification number. If members of your partnership want individual checks issued, they must state their preference in the formal partnership agreement, and must attach the agreement to the claim. Full names and Social Security Numbers are required. Other types of legal entities may claim the prize but such entities must have been established prior to ticket purchase. Prize payment will be in the name and under the taxpayer identification number of the claiming entity.
Can I receive my prize as a one-time cash payment?
It depends. For Mega Millions, Powerball, and Lotto, winners have 60 days, beginning with the day after the drawing to decide between a one-time lump sum, or a 30-year annuity. The one-time cash option amount is based in part on current U.S. Treasury bond prices. The websites for Mega Millions and Powerball contain the estimated, lump-sum cash value for their respective jackpots.
Those who make a claim 60 days after the drawing automatically receive the annuity. With this method, winners are paid in annual installations over 30 years.
Do I have to pay taxes on winnings?
Yes. For winners who are United States citizens or resident aliens, 25% in Federal tax is withheld from prize amounts over $5,000, and 3.75% Illinois state tax is withheld from prizes of $1,000 or more. For winners who are nonresident aliens, the Federal tax withholding rate is 30%. Actual tax liability may be more or less, depending on your individual filing status.
How can I shrink taxes on a major prize?
While we cannot advise players on taxes, or the use of their individual prizes, we strongly suggest you contact a financial planner, tax attorney/preparer, Internal Revenue Service (1-800-424-1040) and/or Illinois Department of Revenue (1-800-732-8866 or 217-782-3336).
What happens to my winnings if I die?
If a winner dies before receiving the entire prize, the balance is paid to their estate. Whatever happens, the entire prize is guaranteed to be paid. Under certain circumstances, the prize winner’s estate or trust (if the prize winner established a trust) may have the option to receive all future payments as a one-time, net present-value payment. The amount of such payment shall be determined in accordance with Illinois Lottery statutes and administrative rules.
If I win big, can I avoid having my name released?
To assure the public that prizes are won and awarded, the Lottery routinely publishes winner information, including the name, home city and amount won. We do not, however, publish winners’ addresses, telephone numbers and other personal information. Multi-million dollar winners may be required to participate in a one-time public relations event in which the winner typically receives an oversized souvenir check
Where do Lottery profits go?
By law, profits from all regular Lottery games are deposited into the state's Common School Fund, which supports kindergarten through 12th grade public education, or the state’s Capital Projects Fund, which finances construction of roads and bridges. Illinois K-12 students and classrooms receive nearly $670 million per year in Lottery revenue -- about 6.5% of the state's annual contribution to K-12 education. From chalk to computers to roadwork, the Illinois Lottery dollars you don't win are going toward a winning cause. In addition, the Lottery is mandated to periodically offer Lottery games that benefit specific causes like Illinois veterans and the fight against breast cancer.
Who determines which school districts receive Lottery profits?
The Illinois General Assembly determines how money in the Common School Fund and Capital Projects Fund is distributed. Although the Lottery contributes to these funds, we do not decide how that revenue is allocated.

Playing The Illinois Lottery On The Internet
What is an Illinois Lottery online account?
An Illinois Lottery online account allows a player to purchase certain Lottery game tickets online. With an Illinois Lottery online account, players can view their history or purchases and wins, have winnings of up to $600 deposited into their account for immediate access, get email notification of wins and manage personal spending limits. You can play Powerball, Mega Millions and Lotto online. You can subscribe online to Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3 and Pick 4
Who can play the Illinois Lottery online?
Anyone over 18 years of age and a resident of Illinois can play Illinois Lottery games online. Employees of the Illinois Lottery, the Lottery Control Board, officers and employees of Northstar Lottery Group, LLC and its affiliates including Scientific Games International, Inc. and GTECH Corporation; officers and employees of Northstar Lottery Group's advertising, public relations, and sales promotion agencies assigned to the Illinois Lottery account; officers and employees of audit firms performing for the Illinois Lottery; certain other contractors of the Illinois Lottery or Northstar Lottery Group, LLC; and other agents and families living in the same household of each are not eligible to play.

How do I choose my numbers?
You can pick your own numbers or choose the Quick Pick option if you want the system to randomly generate and select numbers for you.
How do I know if I won?

How do I claim my prize?
Winnings of $600 or less are automatically deposited into your account. Winnings over $600 will be processed by the Illinois Lottery Claims Department. You'll receive an email to notify you how to complete the claim process.
How can I check my account balance?
Check your balance any time by logging in to your account at www.illinoislottery.com.
How do I fund my online lottery purchases?
Your purchases can be made by credit or debit card (Visa®, Mastercard® or Discover®). You can store your credit/debit card information for later or you can provide it each time you play.
Can I fund purchases directly from my bank account?
No. You can only fund purchases with either a credit card or debit card, or with the balance in your account.
How can I withdraw funds from my online account?
If you have funds in your account, you can have these funds directly deposited into your checking or savings account or you can request a check.
Can I cancel my purchase?
No, once a ticket purchase is placed it can’t be cancelled. So, make sure to double check your selections before you hit 'Submit'.
How can I view my current purchases?
To review your account history, click on “My Account” and select “My Transactions.” You'll be able to see a listing and descriptions of all debits and credits to your account (under “Financial History”). To see a listing of all past purchases, click on “My Account” > “My Transactions” and select “Game History.”
When are the winning Lottery numbers picked?
The winning Powerball numbers are drawn Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. The winning Mega Millions numbers are drawn Tuesday and Friday at 9:59 p.m. The winning Lotto numbers are drawn Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 9:22 p.m. at WGN-TV studios in Chicago. Results are posted to www.illinoislottery.com shortly thereafter.

What Are Subscriptions?
Subscriptions allow you to set up one or more Illinois Lottery purchases automatically for a set number of draws for a game. You can use your own numbers or choose the Quick Pick option.
What Illinois Lottery Games Are Available For Subscription?
Is There A Set Time Period For Subscriptions?
There are 13 week, 26 week and 52 week subscription options available with the option to renew for Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto and Lucky Day Lotto. Lucky Day Lotto also offers subscriptions from 1 week to 12 weeks. Pick 3 and Pick 4 offer subscriptions between 1 and 13 weeks.
What is Auto Renew?
When you set-up your subscription, you have the option to select auto renew. This feature will automatically renew your lottery subscription once it reaches the end of the term you have selected. Your credit or debit card will automatically be charged. If your card is rejected for any reason, your subscription will not be renewed and you will be notified via email.
Is The Ticket Cost For Subscriptions The Same As Playing An Individual Game?
Yes, if you purchase a subscription between 1 and 13 weeks. If you purchase a 26 week subscription you get one week free, and if you purchase a 52 week subscription you get two weeks free.
What Happens If I Win On One Of My Subscriptions? How Will I Know?
If you win, you'll be automatically notified via email. If you have an online account, winnings less than $600 will be automatically paid out to your account - giving you immediate access to your winnings. Winnings of $600 or more will be processed through the Lottery claims process.
How Do I Subscribe To Illinois Lottery Games?
You can subscribe to Illinois Lottery games through an Illinois Lottery online account. Just select the game you want to subscribe to, pick your numbers, select your options, then determine the length of time for your subscription. You can even select auto renew so your subscription automatically renews.
How Can I Check The Status Of My Subscription?
You can always check the status of your Illinois Lottery subscriptions through your online account. Just go to “My Account” and select “My Subscriptions.” You will find all of the details on your subscriptions. If you do not have access to the Internet, you can get the details of you subscription by calling the Player Hotline at 1-800-252-1775.
Pick 3 and Pick 4 Subscriptions
How can I purchase a subscription for Pick 3 and Pick 4?
Subscribing to Pick 3 and Pick 4 is easy. Start by visit illinoislottery.com and selecting the "Subscribe" button below the Pick 3 and Pick 4 winning numbers. Then, select your play style, pick your numbers, select the amount you'd like to play and the length of your subscription. You can also add plus Fireball and choose to automatically renew your subscription. After you've made all of your desired selections, select "Add to Cart." You can then add more tickets, or complete your purchase. You will need an Illinois Lottery online account to subscribe, so you will either need to sign in or register to complete your subscription purchase. What length subscriptions are available for Pick 3 and Pick 4?
Pick 3 and Pick 4 subscriptions are available for 1 -13 weeks, with an option to automatically renew.
Do I have the same options for my Pick 3 Pick 4 tickets with subscriptions that I have in the retail stores?
You have the same options that you have in retail stores including the ability to select your play style, determine the play amount and add plus Fireball. You cannot, however, select a specific draw time (Midday or Evening). For a subscriptions purchase, you are only able to play your selected numbers for consecutive drawings for the length of your selected subscription. For example, a one week subscription would play the selected numbers in the next 14 draws, 7 midday and 7 evening.
Can I subscribe on the mobile app?
Yes, you can subscribe to Pick 3 and Pick 4 via the mobile app, desktop website and mobile website. Learn more about the Illinois Lottery mobile app.
How do I buy more than one set of numbers?
After you have created your ticket and added one set of numbers to your shopping cart, an "Add Another Game" section will appear under your ticket details. Just select the "Subscribe" button under the Pick 3 or Pick 4 logo to add more tickets. Learn more about the online shopping cart and other online play features.
I purchased a Pick 3 or Pick 4 subscription. When does my subscription start?
Your subscription will start with the next available draw.
What happens when my subscription ends?
When the end of your subscription is approaching, you will receive a notification email of the approaching end date. If you set-up auto renew, a new subscription with the same numbers and same options will be re-purchased for the same length as the original subscription. Your credit card will be charged 2 days prior to your subscription end date.
If you do not have auto renew selected, your subscription will end, but you can always change your auto renew status. Just login to your Illinois Lottery online account and go to My Account>>My Subscriptions. Identify the subscription you wish to renew and click the "View" (eye) icon and you'll see your subscription details. Toggle the "Auto-Renew" button to "Yes" and select "Submit."
My subscription is over and I want to replay my numbers, how can I do that?
If your subscription has already ended, you can easily re-play your original numbers with the same options by copying your subscription. Just login to your Illinois Lottery online account and go to My Account>>My Subscriptions and identify the subscription you wish to replay under the "Expired Subscriptions" tab. Click the "Copy" (stacked squares) icon and the options for that subscription will be visible. You can then add those numbers to your cart as is, or make edits to your subscription details. Your new subscription will start with the next available draw as long as you have completed your purchase prior to 12:35 p.m. for Midday drawings and 9:15 p.m. for Evening drawings.
I tried to purchase my favorite numbers and I received a "sold out" message. What does that mean??
If you have attempted to purchase a sold out combination, you will receive a message after submitting your purchase indicating the specific days in the subscription that have the number combinations you have selected are sold out. Funding for the entire length of a subscription is taken from your payment source at the time of submission with any sold out dates being refunded to your payment source.
If you would like to play the selected number combination, you will have to return on a later date and attempt the purchase again. Please note, if your number combination is sold out on the last drawing of your subscription this combination may be sold out for a longer period of time than the subscription length you attempted to purchase.
Internet Play Features
What is Extended Play?
Extended Play is the ability to set up automatic multi-plays online. You can select multi-draw and choose between 2 and 25 subsequent drawings or select a 13, 26 or 52 week subscription for Powerball, Mega Millions or Lotto. For Lucky Day Lotto you can set-up a subscription between 1 and 12 weeks or select a longer subscriptions of 13, 26 or 52 weeks. For Pick 3 and Pick 4 you can set-up subscriptions between 1 and 13 weeks.
Do I still get a discount on 26 week or 52 week subscriptions?
Yes! You will still get a discount with the 26 or 52 week options.
Can I select auto-renew for Extended Play?
You can select the auto-renew option on any subscription, but you cannot select auto-renew for multi-draw.
Will the same numbers be played for Extended Play.
Yes. The original numbers you select when you purchase your Extended Play will be played for each subsequent drawing.
Is Extended Play available on mobile too?
Yes. You choose the number of drawings on both the desktop and mobile sites.
How does the shopping cart work?
The shopping cart allows you to purchase more than one game in a single purchase. Once you’ve built your tickets, just click “Add to Cart” and you can continue to add more games to your cart.
Is there still a $5 minimum purchase for online play?
Yes, there still is a $5 minimum, but with the shopping cart, you can purchase multiple games to reach the $5 minimum. You do not have to spend the $5 minimum for each game. The minimum now applies to all of the games selected and placed in the shopping cart for purchase.
Can I delete items once I’ve added them to my shopping cart?
Yes. Simply, select the “Delete” option and the item will be removed from your cart.
Can I view everything that I purchased with one shopping cart purchase?
Purchases are not currently grouped by shopping cart in your transactions history. You can see every purchase in “Game History” and you can see each shopping cart purchase in “Financial History.”
After I made my purchase, I got a notice that said one of my purchases failed and the balance was refunded to my account. How can I check?
Log-in to your account and go to Financial History. Here you should see a credit to your account in the amount of the failed purchase.
I put items in my shopping cart, but when I tried to check out my purchase was gone. What happened?
The shopping cart will time-out after an extended period of time and will be re-set to empty. Once you build your selections, make sure to check out before the time-out window so your selection is not lost.
Are responsible gaming limits applicable to the shopping cart?
Yes. Responsible gaming limits do apply to shopping cart purchases. The only exception is when subscriptions are included and the limits do not apply. To find gaming limits, log-in to your account, go to “My Account” and select “My Purchase Limits.”
Is the shopping cart available on mobile too?
Yes. You can add items to the shopping cart on mobile as well as desktop.
How do promotional codes work?
Unique promotional codes can be used for discount purchases. Codes must be entered exactly as written
Where can I find a promotional code?
When there is an active promotion, unique promotional codes will be distributed to players.
Are there promotional codes for subscriptions?
No. Promotional codes will only be used for single or multi-draw purchases.
I received a free ticket, where can I find my free ticket?
If you received a free ticket as the result of a promotion, the free tickets can be found in your Game History. Just go to “My Account,” select “My Transactions” and you will land on the “Game History” tab.
I received a credit to my account, where can I find it?
Check your financial history to see any credits to your account.

Who Can Play Illinois Lottery Games On The Mobile App?

Which Games Can I Play On The Mobile App And How Do I Play On My Mobile Device?
You can play Powerball®, Mega Millions®, and Lotto with the mobile app. You can subscribe to Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3 and Pick 4 using the mobile app. You must be connected to the Internet within the state of Illinois. You can connect to the Internet via WiFi or through your mobile carrier (Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile or AT&T). Internet connection through a mobile carrier requires that you follow the steps and opt in for the Mobile Device Geo-Location Service (“Device Geo-Location Service”). Once an Internet connection is established, you can select the 'Buy Now' buttons and begin to play. More information about mobile device geo-location can be found in our General FAQ.
What Happens If I Change My Mobile Number Or My Mobile Carrier?
If you either change your mobile phone number or mobile carrier, you can still use the app to check winning numbers and use the retailer locator but you must update this information in your Illinois Lottery online account to be able to continue buying Illinois Lottery game tickets. Log into your account, visit My Account >> Personal Preferences >> Mobile Preferences, update your information and press “Submit.” You will get a confirmation message once your update is successful.
Will The Illinois Lottery Mobile App Send Me Texts And Alerts?
If you have opted-in to mobile geo-location, you will receive no more than one text per month for ongoing account verification. The mobile app currently does not have alerts.
How Will I Get Updates For The App?
Any updates to the Illinois Lottery mobile app will be automatically applied to your device.
Are There Costs Associated With Using My Mobile Device?
Message and data rates may apply to the use of your mobile device depending upon the terms of your wireless calling plan.
Do I Need An Account To Play Illinois Lottery Games With The Mobile App?
Yes. You must create an Illinois Lottery account to play Illinois Lottery games with the mobile app and you can register through the app.
Do I Need An Account To Check Winning Numbers Or Use The Retail Locator With The Mobile App?
No. You do not need an Illinois Lottery account to access these features.
If I Created An Account Online, Do I Need To Create An Account On The App As Well?
No. You only need one Illinois Lottery account. If you signed up online via your desktop computer or via your mobile phone you will be able to use the same account.
How Do I Choose My Numbers?
You have two options to choose your numbers.
Quick Pick: This option allows you to tap Quick Pick from the Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3 and Pick 4 pages and numbers are randomly selected for you.
Choose Your Own Numbers: Choose your own numbers on the Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3 and Pick 4 screens by tapping on the square underneath Ticket 1. A pop up number grid will appear and a message will instruct you to choose your numbers. Select your numbers by tapping each number on the grid. Once selected, the numbers will change to another color. If playing Powerball or Mega Millions, a second message will instruct you to pick your Powerball or Megaball number.
Is There A Minimum Purchase Amount?
Yes. Minimum purchase amount is $5.

Why did the price of Lotto change?
The price of Lotto is increasing to help build larger jackpots and to award larger prizes within prior prize categories. The Lotto game will be changing on July 14, 2013. The last Wednesday draw date will be July 10, 2013.
Why is the Illinois Lottery changing the Wednesday draw to Thursday?
Currently the Illinois Lottery doesn’t have a large jackpot drawing offered on Thursday. Having the drawing on Thursday will spotlight Lotto with Extra Shot and remove it from the shadows of our multistate games. This change gives players a variety of days to play large jackpot games.
How do I play all my numbers on one ticket if I only get one board?
You can still play your favorite numbers by using the additional boards on the play slip.
Can I use the same play slip?
No, you will need to use the new play slips which will be in your local lottery retailer prior to the change.
Did the Lotto prize matrix change?
Yes, we changed the prize matrix and players are able to win more for matching one to six numbers and matching Extra Shot. In addition, Lotto will add an additional "match 2" prize level to give players a new chance to win.

Why are you cancelling my Lotto subscription?
The price of Lotto will change to $1 for 1 game panel instead of 2 starting July 14, 2013. This change in price will allow for bigger Lotto jackpots. Due to the price change, it is necessary to cancel existing subscriptions. In addition, Lotto is moving the Wednesday drawing to Thursday at 9:22 pm CST. The Monday and Saturday draws will remain at 9:22 pm CST. Currently the Illinois Lottery doesn’t have a large jackpot drawing offered on Thursday – now there is one more day in the week giving you a chance at a large jackpot.
When is the last day of my current subscription?
Your current subscription will end after the evening draw on July 13, 2013.
When can I sign up for a new Lotto subscription now?
Beginning July 14, 2013, you can sign up to purchase a new Lotto subscription online at www.illinoislottery.com.
Is this change to Lotto impacting my other Illinois Lottery subscriptions?
No, the change to Lotto subscriptions will not impact other Illinois Lottery subscriptions.
What happens if I have a balance remaining on my subscription, how will I get my refund?
If you have an active Illinois Lottery online account, the balance from your subscription will be refunded and deposited into your online account on July 14, 2013, where you can use the funds to purchase a new subscription, purchase other Illinois Lottery games over the Internet (such as Powerball and Mega Millions). Or you can then request to have the refund paid by check or via ACH to your checking account. Please note that if you have not accepted new Illinois Lottery Terms and Conditions and thus, do not have an active Illinois Lottery online account, a check will be mailed to your address on file. However, if you would like these funds deposited to your Illinois Lottery online account, please log into your Illinois Lottery online account on or before July 13, 2013, and accept the Terms and Conditions that will be presented to you when you log in.
If I am receiving a check refund for my subscriptions balance amount, when will the check be mailed?
Your check should be mailed within two to four weeks.
What happens to my discount (for 26 and 52 weeks subscriptions)?
Your discount was split amongst all the draws in your subscription at the time of purchase. You will receive a refund for the remaining balance.

Your refund will be based on how many weeks of your subscription remain as of July 13, 2013.

What is the best way to sign up for a new subscription?
Effective July 14, 2013, players are encouraged to sign up and purchase a new subscription at www.illinoislottery.com. It only takes a few minutes to sign up.
What happens if I had my subscription set to auto-renew?
Your subscription will not auto-renew due to the coming change to Lotto. You can sign-up for a new subscription starting July 14, 2013. When you purchase your new subscription you will be able to select the auto-renew feature.
Why was My3 cancelled from the draw game portfolio?
The Illinois Lottery has cancelled My3 from the draw game portfolio as a result of the performance of the game. The Illinois Lottery strives to continuously evaluate our games and product offerings to ensure players have the best games available. Although My3 is being cancelled, we encourage you to try one of our other great daily games.

How did Internet Lottery sales come about?
In 2009 the Illinois legislature passed amendments to the Lottery Law that approved the Internet Pilot Program to launch the sale of Mega Millions and Lotto on the Internet. On December 23, 2011, a U.S. Justice Department decision provided much anticipated clarity to Illinois and other state lotteries by confirming that the sale of lottery products over the internet by state-run lotteries was legal.
Why sell Lottery on the Internet? How will this help grow sales of current Lottery retailers?
Modernization continues to be a top priority for the Illinois Lottery. The Illinois Lottery has invested more than $80 million to bring state-of-the-art technology to our retailer community. From a completely new central gaming system, a highly sophisticated satellite communications system, brand new POS terminals, consumer protection ticket checkers an unparalleled level of merchandising sales support to a 24-hour streamlined product delivery system, innovation continues as we embrace the new Internet sales channel.
Our valued retailer partners are the lifeblood of our business. In addition to the Internet, the Lottery is committed to new instant and draw based game innovations that will continue to grow Lottery retailer commissions. Retailers are benefitting from the recent instant innovations growth with sales up 30% over last year. In addition to commission increases from instant ticket sales, retailers are also receiving a new 1% cashing bonus which to date has provided retailers an additional $7+million in commissions. We have also implemented three retailer performance based programs and will continue to reward retailers based upon sales goals to deliver the business plan.
How will the Lottery ensure that people buying tickets online are 18 and live in Illinois?
The registration process will include identity and age verification:
- The player's Lottery account is a fully-regulated, FDIC insured bank account.
- In accordance with federal regulations, the issuing bank conducts a "know-your-customer" ID review for all registered players, including verification of their age.
- Prospective players will pass this review while they are registering and making any Lottery purchases.
The Lottery will use Internet Protocol (IP) address geo-location data to instantly verify that Internet players are within the state borders. Leveraging third-party technology, the Lottery is able to review the IP address location each time a user makes a Lottery purchase.
How will sales on the Internet grow the player base at retail?
Offering the sale of Lottery games on the Internet is a huge growth opportunity for retailers and a significant new way to build a consumer relationship with one of the single largest addressable markets of young adult consumers. According to research the Internet Pilot Program will bring 600,000 to 1,000,000 new players to the Lottery - a majority of who have never played the Lottery before.
Internet-based sales and marketing of Lottery games will draw new consumers to the games and grow sales at retail by creating new demand for Lottery products and offering a variety of integrated promotions. For instance, offering players on the Internet a "Find a retailer near you" easy link. We need to reach a new group of consumers who have grown up on the Internet and currently are lapsed or non-Lottery players. Internet-based sales and marketing of Illinois Lottery games will draw new consumers to the games and actually grow sales at retail by creating new demand for Lottery products. This is the case in countries, such as England, Italy and others in Europe, who have introduced sales on the Internet over the last five years. In these countries retailers benefited from an increase in Lottery playership through more retail sales driven by the broader player base. These lotteries co-promote across the channels driving Internet players to brick and mortar retailers.
Who gets the commission on winning tickets?
Purchases on the Internet are not retail purchases and not subject to commission. Any savings to this end will go directly to the Capital Projects Fund.
What if a customer has an issue with their Internet purchase?

Will this pilot program take any Lottery products out of retail locations?
No. The products that are part of the Internet Pilot Program will continue to be available in all of our retail locations. The full portfolio of Lottery products will only be available in our retail locations.
